Hoist has a great smith machine with their new PTS system that, in my opinion is the best on the market, but you will have to cough up a substantial amount of cash to get one.
The appeal of the new Hoist smith machine is the dual action system that allows full free range of movement for any exercise, yet still allows the safety and peace of mind of a traditional smith machine.
There are also two gun racks on the frame so you can rack the smith bar on either side of the cage, or use the gun racks for traditional free weight exercises like bench press, curls, shoulder presses, rows and squats.
One of the appeals of the hoist smith machine is the ability to add pieces to it as your budget and needs change, and unless you have an extra 4 grand laying around, this is an option that you'll want to consider if you buy one.
The basic Hoist PTS runs about $1999, that gets you the smith machine only. The add on options are the 200 pound selectorized lat tower and (2) shrouded cable cross stacks which can be added to the front of the machine.
The Hoist comes with some killer bar attachments that I haven't seen on any other smith machine, they're made from large diameter hollow aluminum and they kick some major butt!
I like the Hoist attachments so much, I replaced the attachments on my Parabody Smith Machine with the Hoist models, even though I had to beg Hoist to sell them to me and, they cost $129 bucks for the lat bar and short bar together!
The only reason I would buy the Hoist PTS LAT is the huge price tag of
the unit with all the options. Instead you could get the Bodycraft Jones
Machine or the Body Solid 7 Series and have a good, solid alternative
machine, then send me the left over money (just kidding)...
here's the best Hoist
PTS Smith alternative
