Nordic Track Functional Trainer
One of the first companies to lead the movement toward "real world" functional strength training was a company called Ground Zero Fitness who introduced a complete line of free motion cable machines to the health club market in 1999.
At the time, their new concept of a 3-dimensional cable and pulley training gym seemed off the wall to the health club devotes, but it quickly gained acceptance when they discovered how effective and versatile this form of strength, core and balance training is.
The only downside to the early Freemotion machines is that they cost $4000 - 5000 dollars. A price tag health clubs could afford, but way out of reach for all but the most upscale home users (I know because I wanted to get one for my home gym in 2000 and contacted my local rep, only to be blown away by the price and saddened by the fact that I could never afford one).
Today, the exact same technology can be found in the Nordic Track Functional Trainer for 1/3 the price for the home market. That's good news for you and me, because it's the best functional training gym on the market in this price range by a mile.
What sets the this functional trainer apart from similar knockoff machines is the twin independent arms that rotate a full 180 degrees (from low to high), stopping anywhere in between at one of the 11 pin adjustment points that allows almost unlimited exercises and training functionality...
Nordic Track Functional Trainer Specs:
Along with the rotating tower arms, the Nordictrack also has a full 12 feet of cable so you're not limited in your range of motion or exercise selection. That means you can effectively use the machine for an entire range of sports training applications and core movements without worrying about bottoming out the weight stack when you're using the gym.
I won't go into all the benefits of core and functional training here (it would take another 5 pages), but I will leave you with this...
If you're into sports like golf, softball, skiing, water skiing or wake boarding, and tennis - or you just want to want to make your daily life easier by having a strong core and functional strength, you're missing the boat if you're not using a functional trainer for your home workouts.
I own and use a functional trainer in our gym and my wife's training studio and recommend the Nordic Track as the best machine on the market for home use...
