Smooth 7.4 Elliptical Trainer

The Smooth CE 7.4 Elliptical Trainer is the top of the line elliptical offered from Smooth fitness, whose elliptical line also includes the Smooth CE Elliptical, Smooth 2.1 elliptical and the Smooth 3.2 elliptical.

Sometimes there is a point when spending more money on an elliptical trainer doesn't pay off with the kind of return you'd like to get on your investment.

That's the case for the Smooth 7.4 elliptical. I do think it's a great elliptical machine but there's not much additional value in the 7.4 above what you're getting in the Smooth 3.2 (and it's almost $500 bucks more).

When you start pushing up into the $2000 price range, there's too much competition for attention and the Smooth 7.4 elliptical loses some of its' appeal when you compare it to similar elliptical machines like the Sole e95 elliptical.

Smooth CE 7.4 Elliptical Key Benefits and Specs:

  • Nine Programmable User Profiles
  • Wireless Heart Rate Monitor
  • Upgraded LCD Display w/ Dot Matrix
  • Electromagnetic Braking System
  • Heavy Gauge Oval Steel Frame
  • Nine Challenging Preset Programs
  • Sixteen Resistance Levels for forward and reverse motion
  • Tilt and Go Wheels for easy mobility
  • Ergonomic, Pivoting Foot Pedals
  • 350 Pound User Weight Capacity
  • Lifetime Frame and Electromagnetic Brake warranty

Smooth bills the 7.4 elliptical as their commercial unit, because it has a large 350 pound weight limit that exceeds most other ellipticals in this price range.

The improvements over the Smooth 3.2 are few. They include a little nicer LCD display console and an additional 1" stride length, which pushes the 7.4's stride to a 19" in length.

Are the upgrades on the 7.4 worth the money?

They're nice to have but I don't, however, think they merit a $500 price increase over the Smooth 3.2 or comparable ellipticals like the Sole e95 elliptical.

If you're considering buying the Smooth 7.4 elliptical trainer, take a closer look at the Smooth 3.2 and the Sole e95 as both are good alternatives for a much better price...
