Bayou Adjustable Dumbells

With the popularity of adjustable dumbells growing everyday, it's no surprise there's another entry into this competitive market from Bayou Fitness.

Bayou 50 Pound Adjustable Dumbells

The Bayou adjustable dumbells come in pairs of either 25 or 50 pounders and are made with metal plates and a composite tray that serves not only as the weight adjustment guide, but also a versatile attachment point for securing them to the Bayou adjustable dumbell bench.

The adjustment of the Bayou dumbells is fast and efficient. There's a metal pin on each end of the dumbell that allows you to select a weight between 10-50 pounds on the 50 pounders (like the pair I have) or 5-25 pounds on the lighter weight 25 pound set by simply lifting and sliding it to the desired position.

The only gripe I have with the 50 pound dumbells I have is that they can only be adjusted in 10 pound increments (10, 20, 30, 40, 50) which may be a concern for rank beginners and some beginning male and female trainers who need lighter adjustment points.

I did find a work around for this problem though. Since each plate weighs 5 pounds you can load one side of the dumbell with an additional plate by moving the pin to the next highest weight setting. Just be sure to move your grip toward the end cap on the bar to keep the weight balanced (not recommended for dumbell bench press though).

Beyond the durability of the solid steel plates, the Bayou dumbells are appealing for two additional reasons, the first one being the ability to attach the dumbell set to the Bayou adjustable weight bench, and the second is the low price.

The Bayou adjustable dumbells may not be as well known as the Powerblock and Bowflex Selectechs, but they give them a run for the money on quality construction, and beat them on price which is often the deciding factor for many people looking to get value for their dollar when shopping for weight equipment.
